The picture postcard family house that we are going to show you today is located in a quiet corner of South Korea. Yearlong, it enjoys a temperate climate and ample sunshine. The cheery nature of the surroundings is accentuated by the presence of scenic mountainscape which keeps this country–town sufficiently guarded from cold and harsh northerlies.

The building itself seems to bask in this radiant mood and it seeps in the interiors as well. The spirited nature of this modern dwelling, however, is only one of its many hallmarks. Let’s find out what else it has in store for us…

Façade of the building

The façade reveals an unusual  mixture of slopes and straight lines. Its colour palette dominated by white and accented by bright orange and pale grey prepares us for something very special.

The front yard has a children’s play area, porch with simple chat area and storage space. The garage is located on a corner of the front yard as well. The entire ground is covered with basaltic slabs and decked up with potted plants.

Living room

This is a multigenerational house and like all abodes of similar nature it had to encounter several design challenges. To begin with, the interiors needed to comply with the widely different tastes and requirements of various age groups. Personal spaces customised to the needs of the inhabitants had to be created.

Its modern living room boasts an exalted height. A combination of sliding doors, stationery windows and contemporary lighting fixtures keep it illuminated. Aside from the cosy sofa and small coffee table, the room is decorated with a large, jam-packed bookcase.

Asian dining parlour

The small modern kitchen is preceded by an Asian dining parlour. In traditional Korean style, the sitting arrangement has been made on floor. A low dining table with a glass top occupies the central position of this dining area. Under-floor storage facilities ensure that this space is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also highly functional.

The wooden panel on the ceiling is adorned with matching pendant lighting. A wooden screen partitions off the dining area from the passage. Like other parts of the building, this room enjoys sufficient natural light.

Modern stairway

The modern duo tone stairway combines the effects of wood and metal to create a powerful impact. Broad wooden steps decorate the monostringer staircase. The design is perfect for small homes with limited space for hallway and stairs.

Home library

Here too there is no dearth of surprises. The landing of the staircase has been converted to a small home library-cum-study. Apart from the large bookcases, the space is styled with simple tables converted to workstations.

Children’s room

The children’s room is decorated with a comfortable bed, nightstands, dressers and toy shelves. It shows quite a different colour scheme from the rest of the house.

The feature wall, painted a crisp shade of azure blue, is the prime reason behind its exclusive appearance. The views of the surroundings can be enjoyed through the sliding windows.

Craft room

This is a personal space meant for the eldest member of the family. It occupies the top-most floor and is decorated to a style that feels comfortable to the occupant of the room. Thanks largely to the sliding windows, the expansive room enjoys warm sunshine during the daytime.

The minimalist décor makes it look even more impressive. It is only styled with such items that are thought to be necessary for its owner. The design of this modern abode amply reveals how to plan a space according to the needs of the individual occupants and still maintain harmony in the interior décor.
