The space opts for an all-white aesthetic – the only deviations are the timber flooring and the odd furniture element. Clean lines abound and decoration is scarce.
The ceiling design carefully incorporates the light fittings and fixtures. Everything appears to have been carefully considered and planned.
The modern architecture movement rejected of the unquestioned reign of the compartmentalised house. The proponents of the movement began to remove physical divisions and offer alternatives to the separation of daily activities.
But as we have moved to embrace this open plan layout, many also crave respite in seclusion, retreat, and boundaries. We can see here, that connections between the different activities of the home, such as the living room and the kitchen, create a sense of harmony. But by also creating subtle devices of delimitation, their difference is preserved.
The change in flooring is a subtle but effective means to divide the two functions without truncating or disconnecting them. The kitchen island also hems the space in, crafting a kitchen nook within the greater social heart of the home.
The dining area is contained within the kitchen space, but it, too, finds its very own little nook within the confines of the kitchen. Anchored by a large pendant light and marked by a striking and abrupt change in colour scheme, it identifies itself as distinct.
The master bedroom is understated but elegant. The star of the show is, undoubtedly, the inbuilt wardrobe that spans the full length of the wall and is rendered black. It allows the occupants to keep the space free of clutter and mess.
