One of the advantages of modern decorating, is that you have a huge array of material at your disposal. This means that you can adapt to all sorts of tastes and needs, perfectly personalising any room. For those that have fallen in love with the rustic style, and those that love the more modern industrial design, the material that you will most want to include are bricks. If you're a bit hesitant to choose bricks as your main material, don't worry. They are easy to install, and adapt well to the colours around them, meaning that you can introduce them even later on.

Even if your budget is on the smaller scale, you can still achieve that brick lifestyle you've always wanted. Instead of using actual bricks, switch things up with some great vinyl wallpaper, that will imitate the brick layout. Even though you know it's not real, the design is so good that guests will probably have a hard time telling one from the other.

If you're up to the idea of having a brick kitchen, but would still like a few pointers and ideas, this article is just what you were looking for. Take advantage of some of these great ideas and get ready to transform you kitchen.

1. A rustic and industrial kitchen in one

Mixing two styles into one space can be difficult, but most certainly not impossible. When you've agreed on how to do it with your significant other, it'll be time to contact your favorite architect, and have them take full advantage of the perks of both the rustic and industrial style.

The great thing about both of these styles, is that they compliment each other really well. This is primarily due to their shared origin, all of which stems back to brick design. When looking at these two styles working in simpatico, take note of the steel grey areas, which act as a representative for the industrial style. These areas perfectly adapt to the far more traditional red bricks beneath it, showing just how easy it is to mix these two styles together.

Thanks to the mixing of the two styles, you can avoid getting easily bored, and make your kitchen seem fresh and stylish for ages to come.

2. An island made of bricks

Where you decide to place the decorative bricks, will depend on the needs of the rest of the kitchen. The worst thing that you could do is place them in an area where they won't be seen, or where they will get in the way. Also keep the location in mind, because if you plan on spending the money on these bricks, you'll definitely want to get a bang for your buck.

A great example of how to properly place your bricks is shown in the picture above. The central little island is the perfect place to show off your bricks. Thanks to its central position, it isn't pushed off to the side, and instead can be enjoyed by everyone in the kitchen, and even beyond. Also, due to its detached nature, it doesn't have to try to adapt to the style of the rest of the counter, letting it do its own thing.

If you want to bring something to the forefront, seperating it from the rest might be the way to go.

3. A rustic kitchen in white

Another reason why a brick design is so great, is thanks to the versatility of the colour. If you don't like the original colour, or it doesn't fit in with the rest of the house, simply put on a great coat of paint and watch the bricks adapt to their new surroundings.

The great thing about these bricks is that, with that particular shade of white, they can immediately blend in with the rest of the room, and create the feeling of a modern kitchen. This feeling is not only because of the bricks, but thanks to their combination with the other colours already in play. Due to the perfect mixing of the rough white and the smooth black, this kitchen gets a modern experience unlike any other.

Please note, that even though this space is somewhat to the side, the touch of colour is not, unwelcome, and will be a great addition in any home.

4. Black bricks

The middle section of the counter has, for the past couple of years, become the best place to experiment with colour and style. This area is separate from the others, due to the fact that it has primarily one purpose. Work. As such, making it, it's own thing, actually benefits the kitchen, as it makes people treat it differently.

As in the example above, the black bricks psychologically make a person work faster, thus increasing their productivity. It also motivates people to be more careful, resulting in better food. This kind of motivation, can even lead you to creating dishes you didn't think you could make. However, not everything can be black brick. It is important to get a rest every once in a while, and that's where the white and the light brown comes in. With all of these things working in sync, you can get one of the best cooking experiences of your life.

5. Natural cooking, country style

An outdoor kitchen, like the one above, can be tricky, but in the right hands, can produce a marvelous place to cook. The most important thing to keep in mind when working with an outdoor environment, is that nature is closer than you think. While this might be obvious, if you don't take that under consideration, you'll find yourself with a style that clashes with the surrounding space.

However, if you follow the style of the kitchen before us, you'll be well on your way of getting a great little area to cook in. The red brick, which, as we've said before, is a sign of the rustic style, mixes well with the overall wood panelling on all the cabinets. Mixing these two together, is a match made in heaven, and instantly makes the place more beautiful. If you want to add a bit of nature to the mix, flowers, like the potted plant on the counter, are a great way of connecting with the outside world.

Always be willing to reach out to the world around you. If you do, you'll be surprised by the results that you get back from it.

6. A modern style with the use of bricks

While modern and minimalist spaces often use synthetic materials to create their rooms, adding something a bit more natural to the mix can the give the room a splash of the rustic, and really bring out all that is great about the dominant style. The picture above is a great example of just this kind of room.

While the overall theme of it is modern, the addition of the brick wall, is a nice little throwback to era's past. What's more, it stands out thanks to the texturing of the rest of the room. Everything, with the exception of the brick wall, is smooth, with only a few interruptions. The brick wall disrupts all of that, giving the room a more dynamic feel. However, despite it being so different in terms of material, it is perfectly in sync colour-wise, as the grey of the walls goes hand in hand with the muted tones of the rest of the room. Disruption isn't necessarily a bad thing, and when pulled off just right, it can have a profoundly positive effect of the room.

If you're satisfied with how your indoor kitchen has turned out, it might be time to start thinking about having a little spot outdoors, to entertain guests with. If that sounds appealing, check out this article on how to build the backyard barbecue of your dreams.
