Statement

magine. Have a dream. Be free. These are the most important elements in my work.
As a little girl, I loved spending time daydreaming. My parents and teachers used to say it wasn't a good habit. But I couldn't stop. I enjoyed imagining things and the things I imagined often appeared in my dreams. Sometimes I felt my dreams were much more realistic than the reality itself, and that notion thrilled me. I've always liked to paint, and I've made my own imaginary space through my work. In my imaginary place, there was no concept of time or space, and everything was free. Everyone dreams of breaking away from reality. However, making that desire come true depends on each person's individual decision. Breaking away from reality is not easy. In our society, we have many rules and laws designed to tie us to community life. Also, various customs and standards for social maintenance exist. Many people say that we have to follow majority. Different thoughts and different behaviors are often considered wrong. Thus, as people grow older, they forget their own thoughts and ideas; they even forget how to imagine. They just live their life like an old habit and repeat the same routine endlessly. Moreover, they don't know how to escape from this meaningless trap in which they find themselves. And that kind of life makes people deny new experiences and fear freedom. But craving freedom is human nature, and I think it’s that nature that makes people enjoy fantasy novels and movies as well as traveling. Think about this. When we were little kids, we imagined things freely, and we talked about those things. Maybe all of this was possible because children aren't influenced by the external environment much. However, as people grow older, everything changes. The external environment influences them continuously, and that makes people rigid and inflexible. People lose their own nature as they grow older. But we are different from robots. We can think, imagine, and make things happen. That’s what made our society progress, and that is the fundamental characteristic of humankind. Now, I want to make my own imaginary space and create stories and build my own kingdom through my work. Also, I want to find my own nature through my work and I want to communicate with people. My hope is that people can freely imagine, as they did in their childhood, through my work. I want to invite everyone who dares to imagine. Enjoy . You’ve got an open invitation.

꿈을 꿔라 . 상상을 하라. 자유로워 져라. 이것이 나의 작업에 있어 가장 핵심적인 요소 이다. 어릴적 멍하니 상상을 할 때가 많았다 . 그러다 혼자 재미있는 상상을 하다 웃곤 했다. 그런 나를 다른 사람이나 어른들은 정신을 멍하니 놓고 있는 습관은 좋은 습관이 아니라고 말씀 하기도 하셨다. 하지만 나의 상상은 계속 되었고 그것이 꿈으로 이어지는 경우가 많았다. 때론 내가 꾸는 꿈들이 현실보다 더 리얼해서 소스라치게 놀라는 경우도 종종 있었다. 어릴적 부터 그림을 그리기 좋아하는 나는 조금씩 나의 상상의 공간을 만들고 그리곤 했다. 그 곳에서는 시간과 공간의 개념이 없을 뿐 아니라 모든 것들이 나의 머리 속에서 나오고 자유로웠다. 인간들은 누구나가 일탈을 꿈꾼다. 다만 그것을 실천에 옮기느냐 마느냐는 개인의 추진력과 용기의 차이일 뿐이라고 생각한다. 왜냐하면 현실에서 일탈은 매우 힘든 부분이 있다. 다 함께 어울려 살아가는 사회라는 곳은 그 곳을 유지 하기 위해 정해놓은 틀과 법이 있고 정해놓지 않았지만 수많은 세월을 인류가 살아오면서 실패와 경험으로 만들어진 사상과 규범이 그리고 관습이 있기 때문이다. 다수를 따라가는 것이 조직사회의 특징이라고 볼 수 있으며 그 조직에서 나 혼자 다른 행동, 행위를 하는 것은 그 단체의 이단아로 보여지기 쉽상인 세상이다. 그러다 보니 사람들은 어른이 되고 나이가 먹을 수록 사회의 일원이 되어 가면서 어릴적 자유로운 사상들이 딱딱하게 굳어지고 현실의 굴레에 쳇바퀴 돌듯 일상을 무미건조하게 살아 가고 있는 것 같다. 하지만 이 틀을 깰 방법도 모를 뿐 아니라 모든 이들이 이 나이엔 이렇게 살아가는 것이 당연하다고 생각하고 받아들이며 적응하려고 노력한다.
그러다 보니 사고가 딱딱해지는 것은 당연하며 새로운 것에 대한 그리고 자유로움에 대해 거부감을 느끼고 두려워 하게 되는 것 같다. 하지만 인간은 원래 자유를 갈망하는 존재이기에 무의식 속에서 그 틀을 깨고자 노력하는 것이 여행을 간다거나 판타지영화나 소설을 좋아하고 보는 행위로 나타나는 듯 하다. 생각해보라 우리는 모두 어릴때 자유롭게 상상을 하고 그것을 말하곤 했다. 인간은 누구나가 주체적 자아를 가지고 있고 그것이 어릴때는 외부로 부터 영향을 덜 받기에 자유롭지만 나이가 들수록 많은 외부적 환경에 의해 사고의 폭이 줄어들고 소심해지기 마련이다 . 이럿듯 인간의 본질을 오히려 어른이 될 수록 잃어가는 듯 하다. 인간은 로봇이 아니다. 우리는 상상 즉 생각과 사고를 할 수 있고 그러한 사고를 함으로써 인류를 발전 시켜왔으며 또한 미래를 만들어 나갈 수 있고 또한 인간 고유의 특권 이라고 본다. 그래서 나는 나의 작업을 통해 나만의 상상의 공간을 구축하고 그 곳에서 스토리를 만들며 하나의 왕국을 만들고자 한다 . 이러한 작업의 과정과 또 후의 나의 작업을 보는 대중과의 소통을 통해 나의 본질을 찾고자 한다. 또한 내 작업을 보는 이들도 동심으로 돌아가 상상을 하고 자유를 만끽하는 인간 본연의 본질에 충실할 수 있는 시간이 되었으면 한다. 마지막으 은 상상하고자 하는 모든 이들에게 열려 있으며 초대장을 보냅니다.
